Try to avoid spending cash on over priced designer coffees and bottles of fizzy drink. Tap water is healthier and FREE.

If you are given money as a gift put it in your bank account as soon as possible so its not burning a hole in your pocket and you're not tempted to spend it.

Check whether you are eligible for EMA or ALG. If you can't receive EMA because your parents earn too much you can still apply for ALG as soon as you turn 19. Loyalty to banks, brands and bands costs! Look around for the best bank accounts , buy cheaper brands and listen to the radio. Walk or cycle to college. It's cheap and you're get some exercise.

Pack up smoking! Never mind the health implications, the guilt and the smell; your 20-a-day habit is costing you nearly £2,000 a year. Pack it in!
